MS Program - Funding / Grants

The Calgary Multiple Sclerosis Clinic is entirely funded through Alberta Health Services.

MS research in Calgary is supported through a number of avenues (obtained by our researchers through granting competitions), including: grants from the MS Society, the Alberta Innovates Health Solutions (formerly the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research); the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the National Science and Engineering Research Committee, Neuroscience Canada, and the Canadian Stem Cell Network.

Southern Albertans are also extremely fortunate to have very generous community partners who have contributed over $3.5 million dollars  to various research projects, from the development and operation of the Swartout Neuroprotection and Repair Unit, to the development of the MS Clinic electronic health record and research database. In addition to this, many of our patients have also donated funds to support research, education, and clinic infrastructure for our Program.
