Dr. Tamara Pringsheim is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Departments of Clinical Neurosciences and Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary. She is also the Director of the Calgary Tourette Syndrome Clinic. Dr. Pringsheim attended medical school at Queen’s University and completed her residency in neurology at the University of Toronto. Following that, she finished a one-year fellowship in primary headache disorders at the Montreal Neurological Institute, and a three-year fellowship in movement disorders and neuropsychiatry at the Toronto Western Hospital. Dr. Pringsheim also completed her Master’s of Science in clinical epidemiology at the University of Toronto. She came to Calgary in 2008 to start the Calgary Tourette Syndrome Clinic and to work with the Movement Disorders and Headache Programs. Dr. Pringsheim performs clinical research in Tourette syndrome and migraine headaches. She is interested in the links between tic disorders and the autistic spectrum disorders, and what factors influence long term outcomes in children with Tourette syndrome. She is involved with the Cochrane Collaboration and performs systematic reviews on pharmacological treatments for Tourette syndrome and migraine. She is also involved in the development of clinical trials of new treatments for both disorders.
